FAR Part 150 Noise Exposure and Land Use Compatibility Study Community Advisory Team Kick-Off Meeting
Subject Technical Advisory Committee Meeting for the GIAA FAR Part 150 Noise and Land Use Compatibility Study

Invitation for Public Participation

Hafa Adai! On behalf of the Guam International Airport Authority (GIAA) and PCR Environmental, Inc. (PCR), we are pleased to announce that the FAR Part 150 Noise Exposure & Land Use Compatibility Study is underway. The federally-funded Part 150 Noise Study is being conducted to evaluate noise impacts cause by airport operations, and to mitigate its effect to the greatest extent possible.
PCR is the firm contracted by the GIAA to conduct the Part 150 Noise Study. This type of study involves the development of Noise Exposure Maps (NEMs) and a Noise Compatibility Program (NCP). Noise Exposure Maps are scaled, geographical depictions of the airport and surrounding areas, which identify the levels of airport-related noise and non-compatible land uses in each area. The Noise Compatibility Program will evaluate and recommend various noise abatement and land-use mitigation measures to reduce noise impacts and ensure land use compatibility within the vicinity of the airport.
The Part 150 Noise Study requires that the public be given the opportunity to comment on study recommendations. On behalf of the project team, we would like to invite you to participate in this study by becoming a member of our Community Advisory Team (CAT).
The role of the CAT is to advise GIAA and PCR on community concerns on issues related to the Part 150 Noise Study. More specifically, the committee will act on behalf of the community as an official forum to address community noise concerns; to review airport noise issues and provide input on issue resolution and follow-up actions; to develop ideas and recommend proposals for consideration in airport noise plans, and; to enhance citizens' understanding of airport noise management through the work of the Advisory Committee as a whole. Community involvement and input is critical to the success of the noise study and is a requirement by the FAA. Your participation would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact our Public Involvement Program coordinator Tara Perez-Steffy at 727-6303 to confirm participation. A kick-off meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at 6:00PM at the Barrigada Community Center.
