Emergency Response

PCR often gets called in as a first responder to aid emergency response personnel in determining environmental and chemical hazards. Our personnel acted as first responder after Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) explosion in Saipan to assess leaking aboveground LPG storage tanks. We acted as On-site Coordinator directing efforts of the Saipan Fire Department and Civil Defense Agency during two days of controlled bleeding of the subject tanks. We have also performed air sampling, while donning EPA Level B Protective Equipment, at the burning Ordot landfill in Guam. After evaluation of chemical contaminants we provided recommendations for fire fighters' protective equipment.

Emergency Response
Assessment of Toxic Air Contaminants

PCR was retained by the Guam Environmental Protection Agency and the Civil Defense Commission to determine the types and concentrations of toxic air contaminants generated from fires at the Ordot Landfill, Dededo Transfer Station, and Malojloj Hardfill. Activities included development of a monitoring network; collection of air samples with portable sampling equipment, Summa evacuated canisters, and resin-coated sampling tubes; evaluation of analytical findings, and; preparation of a report with recommendations for protecting fire fighters and landfill personnel, and surrounding residents.
