How does the Residential Sound Solutions Program work?

There are two goals that the FAA requires of the Program. The first is to reduce the interior noise levels of a home by at least 5 dB. The second is to reduce interior noise to a level equivalent to DNL 45 dB. This level allows for normal speech and minimal disruption from aircraft noise.

Every home has its own unique needs. Homes may receive some or all of the typical range of treatments that includes:

  • Replacement of existing windows with acoustical windows
  • Replacement of existing exterior doors with new prime and storm doors
  • Improvements to ventilations systems (where necessary)

A design team from the Airport's consultant team will visit each participating home for approximately 2 hours to discuss the Program, answer questions, and conduct an architectural survey. The homeowner will be required to complete and sign Program forms, including an avigation easement which gives the Airport the right to use the airspace over the property without objection from the property owner.

A design package will be prepared for each home and presented to the homeowner. Once plans are approved, the design package will be assigned to a construction phase, based on location.

Sound insulation materials will be verified and ordered. Once the materials are received, installation will be scheduled with the homeowner. Installation will begin as scheduled and will be completed within 10 - 15 working days. After construction is complete, the homeowner will receive warranty information for the products and work performed on the home.
